1/9/2023 0 Comments Alan wake 2 face modelThe amount of detail in the levels is amazing. Barry is funny and is dynamic enough to be more than mere comedy relief. Alan is amazing, and his narration never gets dull. The voice acting is really good, not just the same five voice actors that are in every other game. The characters are all written well with believable dialogue. The town seems like it's living and breathing, or what little you experience is. The women aren't all bustling supermodels (Alice Wake aside). The thing I like is that this feels like a real place with real people. There's several collectibles (cans, manuscript pages, caches), though only the pages contribute anything to the story. On the other hand, there's only so many enemies in an area (none of that annoying unlimited enemies other games use) and then you can explore without harassment. They also don't drop ammo so you have to be mindful of how you fight. One enemy can easily overwhelm, so being surrounded is a big problem. I play a lot of shooters (Halo, Gears of War, etc), but I enjoyed playing a game with a different kind of mechanic. There were times when the dark fog would roll in and I'd almost be too afraid to move ahead. And not just a pop-out and say boo kind of way. One of the big things about the story is that it is quite scary. I very much appreciated the media references, almost like a video game Scream. I'm a big fan of Stephen King books, horror movies, and suspenseful shows. You battle this ancient evil using only the tools you have. As you go on, you learn that there is an evil force in Cauldron Lake that takes control of creative people. Meanwhile, you find pages to a book you haven't written but is coming true around you. You search the Washington wilderness encountered people, objects, and even animals possessed by a dark force. You've lost your wife and a week of your life. You're not some invincible soldier with unlimited ammo, but a simple guy scrounging what you can find. Enemies will pop out of nowhere and sometimes surround you easily. You have to burn off the darkness (basically a shield) before you can kill them. And heck, you might as well dive into Control while you’re at it, since there is a bit of overlap ( and even some unexpected dipping into other media), and Control is just a really awesome game in its own right.Alan Wake is a third-person shooter where you fight darkness with light. You can check out the trailer below.Īnd if you have yet to play the original, you have some time, and the excellent remaster of Alan Wake dropped a few months back (which was one of my favorite games of 2021), including all of the DLC. It still looks like Ilkka Villi, but it also looks like the Coop.Įither way I am clearly looking forward to Alan Wake 2 and I’m anxious to learn a bit more before it releases next, next year. I’m not gonna lie though, Alan’s new look, at least what little we see here, gives off real, Bradley Cooper as John Wick vibes. It’s a pretty dope trailer, and I love the sound effects and music sting with the title card. Scratch’s bloodied, ghoulish face smiling directly at the camera, before the trailer smash cuts to the title reveal.Īnd with that, all is right in the gaming world. There’s a nice attempt at a jump scare, with Mr. This story is alive this story is a monster The trailer suddenly speeds up as Alan Wake pivots to say: Then, the camera almost reaches Alan Wake, his back to us with some sort of a lightbulb torch held aloft over his head, piercing the darkness. We see our titular hero looming in the far distance and the narration continues, as sudden cuts between this city street and one of the main drags of Bright Falls in an almost Silent Hill-style melting, or a smoking camera-wipe fashion. It then transitions into a long shot of a rainy cityscape, a new and almost jarring contrast to the original game’s small-town setting of Bright Falls. We do get a nice slice of that old Alan Wake internal monologue, as the trailer opens on a slow tracking shot through what looks like a horrific crime scene in a dark and spooky wooded area.
